Tales From A Rainy Night In South Philly

I was lucky (or at least I thought at 2:00 PM) to get a call from a friend who had a ticket available for last night’s World Series game.
Of course, everything turned around in a hurry as the Yankees won, 8-5, to take the lead in the series.
What Was He Thinking???
Any first year student of baseball knows that you don’t hang a curveball to a pitcher because it speeds up their bat and makes it easier to hit the ball. And as we saw last night, Cole Hamels hasn’t mastered that part of the game yet, giving up a single to Andy Pettitte and led to the downfall of the Phils lefty.
Werth A Lot More Than He Is Getting Paid…
Jayson Werth signed a 2-year, $10.5 million contract before the season ($3 mil. in ’09, $7.5 in ’10). But after a 36 homer regular season and seven more so far in the post-season, Werth and his agent probably can’t wait for the 2010 season to come to an end. he is getting ready for a BIG, BIG payday at that point.
Three Day’s Rest
Everyone is making so much out of the Phillies being in trouble now because they have to face C.C. Sabathia, potentially, three times in the series. And Sabathia would have to pitch on three days rest twice in a week. But people need to remember that A.J. Burnett and Andy Pettitte and going to have to pitch on three days rest, as well.

Do They Really Know The Game???
No Kidding, I was watching the game from the standing room area on the main concourse and a Yankees fan come up to me and ask why Matsui was hitting for Joba… “But I heard that the pitchers had to hit… You can do that, bat for the pitcher???”
Now I know that this is a rarity with any baseball fan, which tells me this guy was just someone who got a ticket to the game and was going to be a fan for a day. But, if I was a Yankees fan, I would feel really bad that a guy like this was wearing Yankees gear.
Buy It On-Line…
I will never buy playoff gear at the stadium. Prices of those World Series jackets is $160 at the stadium, compared to $116 on-line.
Best Move That Didn’t Coast A Penny…
Instead of buying a coffee or hot chocolate and paying like $8 for it, I ordered hot water with lemon. It gave me a great warm drink for the first three innings of the game and I didn’t have to pay for it.
By The Way…
According to the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the first time that an NFL game and MLB game will be played in the same city on the same days and contested by teams from the same city.
Enjoy Game #4, it should be an interesting night.
